“The Strigoi are the teeth of the night, but the Moroi… the Moroi are the cold breath that stops your heart before you even realize you are dying.” — Recovered field notes from the Transylvanian Incident, 1994.
Classification & Morphology
Section titled “Classification & Morphology”The Moroi is a spectral anomaly originating from the deep-rooted folklore of the Balkan region. Unlike their more aggressive, corporeal cousins—the Strigoi—the Moroi operate on a frequency of sorrow and lingering existential residue.
- Appearance: Moroi are notoriously difficult to track. They often manifest as invisible energy disturbances or, on rare occasions, as translucent, melancholic shadows. Some witnesses describe the appearance of a pale, restless child or a spectral figure draped in tattered funeral shrouds.
- Nature: They are classified as “lesser” undead entities. Theories suggest they are the ghosts of unbaptized infants or victims who perished specifically at the hands of a Strigoi, effectively turning them into a metaphysical echo of a predatory vampire.
Behavioral Logic
Section titled “Behavioral Logic”When the entity enters an active state, the local ambient temperature drops by approximately 8-12 degrees Celsius. Researchers must adhere to the following logic protocols:
- Environmental Variance: Adherence to established Balkan Folklore occult laws is mandatory. Do not attempt traditional exorcism; the Moroi operates on a parasitic energy cycle rather than demonic possession.
- Containment Radius: Establish a 50-meter perimeter upon detection of localized electrical interference or sudden unexplained thermal drops.
- Feeding Mechanism: Moroi do not typically consume blood in the literal sense. They feed on vitality and emotional warmth. Prolonged exposure leads to chronic fatigue and, in extreme cases, total cellular atrophy.
Modern Anomaly Adaptation
Section titled “Modern Anomaly Adaptation”In the context of contemporary anomalous study, the Moroi represents a persistent “haunting” class entity. While they lack the structural power to threaten urban infrastructure, their ability to “hitchhike” on the energy of high-stress individuals makes them a nuisance in modern clinical or urban settings.
- Note: No formal containment cell is required, as the entity is non-physical. Current “containment” involves the use of iron-filing barriers and specific frequency dampeners to prevent the entity from anchoring itself to living subjects.
Research Addendum
Section titled “Research Addendum”Archivists Note: If you encounter a Moroi in an urban environment, do not engage in dialogue. The entity mimics the voices of the deceased to draw the subject into a state of emotional vulnerability, which is its primary feeding window. Report all sightings to the Balkan Folklore Task Force immediately.
