Objects of Power (OoPs) are anomalous items recovered from the blurred threshold between our physical reality and the Astral Plane. While these objects appear as mundane, everyday artifacts—a rotary telephone, a dusty slide projector, a floppy disk—they act as conduits for raw, incomprehensible energies. They are not merely tools; they are anchors that bridge the collective human unconscious with the shifting, sentient architecture of the Astral.

  • Mundane Facade: To the uninitiated eye, these items possess no intrinsic value. They are scavenged from human history, appearing as common mid-20th-century office equipment or household relics.
  • The Astral Link: Every OoP serves as a tether to the Astral Plane. They function as repositories of potentiality, waiting for a human consciousness—a Parautilitarian—to claim them.
  • The Binding Ritual: An object will not surrender its power to just anyone. A candidate must undergo a “Binding” ritual: a surreal, metaphysical trial within the Astral dimension where the candidate must synchronize their willpower with the object’s intent. Success grants the wielder parautilitarian abilities such as telekinesis, levitation, or dimensional shifting.

When active, an Object of Power creates a localized distortion field. Field researchers are advised to adhere to the following:

  1. Observational Constraints: Observe all laws of the Remedy Connected Universe as established by the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC). Do not attempt to force a bond.
  2. Proximity Alert: Maintain a minimum exclusion zone of 50 meters unless you are an authorized Parautilitarian attempting a controlled binding event.
  3. Containment: These objects must be stored in lead-lined or reality-stabilizing containers when not in use. Failure to stabilize an OoP may result in “spontaneous reality leakage,” wherein the object’s associated power manifests uncontrollably in its vicinity.

In the context of cross-dimensional research (SCP-Foundation integration), Objects of Power represent a significant headache for containment specialists. Unlike standard anomalous items, OoPs are sentient or semi-sentient nodes of the Astral Plane.

“It isn’t that the phone is ringing. It’s that the phone is deciding whether or not it wants to be heard.” — Archivist Note

There are currently no records of an Object of Power being ‘neutralized’ or successfully destroyed. Any attempt to dismantle them results in the immediate release of the contained Astral energy, often causing catastrophic localized reality failure. Researchers are encouraged to submit updated containment logs regarding modern-day manifestations of these artifacts.
