The Strigoi represent the foundational archetype of the “undead” within the Balkan psychic landscape. Unlike the romanticized aristocrats of modern gothic fiction, the Strigoi are raw, visceral manifestations of post-mortem malice. They are categorized as strigoi vii (living) or strigoi mort (dead), both of which pose significant metaphysical risks to local human populations.

“The earth does not keep what it cannot digest; the Strigoi is the rejection of the grave.” — Archival Fragment, 1924

  • Appearance: Often described as a pale, bloated, or desiccated corpse. Pathological examinations of historical remains suggest the presence of a supernumerary heart—a biological anomaly often associated with this entity.
  • Metamorphic Capabilities: The entity possesses the ability to phase out of the visible spectrum (invisibility) or perform rapid biological reconfiguration into lupine or chiropteran forms.
  • Vitality Drain: They do not merely feed on blood; they are vampiric parasites that siphon the life force (vitality) of their biological kin, often causing widespread sickness and blighted harvests within their radius of activity.

When the entity is in an active state, the following protocols must be observed:

  1. Metaphysical Compliance: Actions must align with the established physical and occult laws of the Balkan folkloric tradition.
  2. Perimeter Security: Maintain a minimum exclusion zone of 50 meters. Any breach of this radius by the entity necessitates immediate deployment of traditional salt-boundary wards.
  3. Environmental Impact: Activity is frequently preceded by localized atmospheric anomalies, including sudden drops in temperature and unexplained livestock mortality.

In the context of contemporary anomalous study, the Strigoi are classified as “Cognito-Hazardous Revenants.”

Current Research Status: There is currently a lack of unified containment documentation regarding how these entities manifest in high-density urban environments. Field researchers are requested to submit supplemental files regarding modern sightings, specifically cases involving “corporate” or “digital” vampirism, which theorists suggest may be a modern evolutionary offshoot of the traditional Strigoi curse.
