Descriptive Analysis
Section titled “Descriptive Analysis”The Draugr (Old Norse: draugr; plural draugar) are reanimated corpses of high-status warriors or individuals of significant greed, historically bound to their burial mounds (haugr). Unlike mindless zombies, the Draugr retains the intellect and malicious intent of its former life.
-
Physical Morphology:
- State of Decay: Despite being deceased, the entity appears physically bloated—a condition known as hel-blár (death-blue/black).
- Equipment: They are frequently documented carrying the armaments and personal treasures interred with their remains.
- Manifestation: They can increase their physical mass at will, becoming essentially immovable, or conversely, pass through solid stone and earth to traverse their burial sites.
-
Behavioral Traits:
- Hoard Guardians: They exhibit extreme possessiveness over their gravesite treasures.
- Superhuman Physiology: Possession of strength far exceeding that of a living human, coupled with the ability to exert influence over weather and the local flora.
- Necrotic Aura: Presence often causes cattle to go mad or livestock to die in the vicinity of their mound.
Operational Behavioral Logic
Section titled “Operational Behavioral Logic”[System Rule: Engagement Protocol] When the entity manifests in an active state:
- Law of Physicality: The Draugr is bound by the metaphysical laws of the Norse Mythology framework. It requires physical interaction with its remains (disarticulation or burning) to permanently neutralize.
- Containment Perimeter: Establish an immediate exclusion zone of 50 meters around the burial mound or focal point of the haunting.
- Detection: Usage of thermal imaging is ineffective; utilize localized electromagnetic pulse detectors to identify sudden drops in ambient temperature.
“He walks but does not live. He holds, but does not own. To disturb the mound is to invite the steel of a thousand years.” — Excerpt from the Archives of the Skaldic Order.
Modern Anomaly Adaptation
Section titled “Modern Anomaly Adaptation”Research Note: SCP/Anomaly Integration Current archival records regarding the Draugr in modern urban or industrial environments are incomplete.
- Theoretical Application: Reports indicate potential “Modern Draugr” phenomena manifesting in abandoned infrastructure where high-value assets are left unguarded.
- Call for Researchers: All field agents are requested to submit logs concerning potential Draugr manifestations outside of traditional burial mounds, specifically those occurring in subterranean vaults or high-security, long-abandoned storage facilities.
Archivist’s Warning: Do not attempt to recover artifacts from identified Draugr sites without a standard necromantic dampening field engaged. The transition from “dormant” to “hostile” is typically instantaneous.
