The Wendigo is an apex spiritual and physical anomaly rooted in the frigid wilderness of North America. It is not merely a beast, but a curse—a manifestation of gluttony, greed, and the ultimate moral transgression: cannibalism.

  • Physical Morphology: Observations report a creature emaciated to the point of skeletal transparency. Its skin is stretched taut across protruding bones, possessing an unnatural, ash-gray pallor.
  • Cranial Structure: Common iterations describe the entity crowned by a calcified deer or elk skull, though eye-witness accounts often vary depending on the stage of the entity’s “growth.”
  • Olfactory Signature: The entity is perpetually accompanied by the pungent, unmistakable stench of decomposition and frozen carrion.
  • Metaphysical Nature: It is the embodiment of winter, eternal starvation, and the corruption of the human soul. Those who resort to human flesh for survival in the wilderness are marked by the spirit; their internal heat is extinguished, and they are transformed into a vessel of insatiable, hollow hunger.

“To eat the flesh of another is to invite the Wendigo into your marrow. Once the transformation begins, the belly never fills, and the prey never ceases to exist in your mind.”

When the entity enters an active state, it adheres to the following behavioral parameters:

  1. Metaphysical Anchoring: The entity operates under the rigid “Hunger-Law” of urban legend folklore. It cannot be sated; it can only be delayed.
  2. Proximity Alert: Personnel are advised to maintain a minimum safety radius of 50 meters. Perception-altering effects are common within this range.
  3. Mimicry: The Wendigo has been observed mimicking the voices of missing persons to lure search-and-rescue teams deeper into trackless, frozen environments.

Researcher Note: The following entry is awaiting peer review for integration into the standard Foundation database.

  • Containment Protocol: Due to the spectral nature of the Wendigo, traditional steel-and-concrete containment is largely ineffective. Current “storage” methods involve the maintenance of isolated, temperature-controlled environments (maintained at -20°C) and a strict ban on biological materials within a 1km perimeter of the containment cell.
  • Infection Control: Any personnel exhibiting signs of “cold-heart syndrome” or irrational preoccupation with famine must be quarantined immediately.
  • Containment Status: The entity remains elusive. Sightings are largely concentrated in the Great Lakes region and the boreal forests of Canada. No permanent, successful containment of a fully-manifested Wendigo has been verified to date.

Archivist Note: If you encounter an emaciated figure in the woods that smells of rot and knows your name, do not answer. Do not look for the source of the voice. Just keep moving.
