Overview
Section titled “Overview”The Tarasque is a legendary draconic entity originating from the folklore of Provence, France. Historically documented as a ravaging force that terrorized the region of Tarascon, the entity defies standard biological classification, exhibiting a chimeric physiology that blends mammalian, reptilian, and crustacean traits.
Morphology
Section titled “Morphology”The entity presents a formidable physical profile, often described by medieval chroniclers as possessing:
- Cranial Structure: A massive, leonine head characterized by hardened keratin plates.
- Locomotion: Six short, robust legs, anatomically similar to those of an ursine, providing both stability and high-pressure grip.
- Dorsal Defense: A massive, impenetrable carapace reminiscent of a chelonian (turtle) shell, capable of shrugging off ballista bolts and blade strikes.
- Appendages: A serpentine tail tipped with a lethal, scorpion-like sting capable of injecting potent, unknown toxins.
Behavioral Logic
Section titled “Behavioral Logic”Under current observation protocols within the French Provincial branch of our repository, the following systemic rules apply:
[System Rule] Active State Protocols:
- Physics/Occult Compliance: The entity adheres to standard French Provincial metaphysical laws. Reality-warping effects are localized within a 50-meter radius.
- Containment Breach: Any sighting of the entity in non-historical contexts requires immediate activation of standard containment procedures involving localized sanctification rituals.
Historical Context & Taming
Section titled “Historical Context & Taming”Chronicles recount the entity’s defeat at the hands of Saint Martha. Rather than utilizing martial force, Martha employed “holy water and the sign of the cross” to pacify the beast—a methodology that suggests the Tarasque may be susceptible to cognitohazardous imagery or religious symbology acting as an anchor for its behavioral inhibition.
Modern Anomaly Adaptation
Section titled “Modern Anomaly Adaptation”SCP/Anomaly Integration: At the time of this archive update, no formal modern-day containment record exists. The entity has not been confirmed active in contemporary urban environments.
Researcher Note: Should reports of heavy, six-legged tracks or unexplained shell-like debris appear near riverbeds in the Rhone region, investigators are to treat the entity as an active Euclid-class threat. Please submit all field observations to the Archive Overseer immediately.
