Nodens, often referred to as the Lord of the Great Abyss or the Hunter of the Dreamlands, is an ancient and powerful entity that operates outside the malevolent influence of the Great Old Ones. Unlike the entropic forces of Azathoth or the creeping madness of Nyarlathotep, Nodens appears to act as a cosmic balancer, often intervening in the affairs of humans and minor deities alike.

“He is the Lord of the Great Abyss, and he rides in a chariot drawn by vast, shimmering beasts of the sea. His visage is that of a man, yet his presence suggests an age before the stars were young.”

When this entity enters an active state within our reality or the Dreamlands, internal protocols dictate strict adherence to the following:

  1. Reality Anchoring: All observers must maintain consistent ontological anchoring to prevent “Dream-Bleed,” as Nodens’ presence thin the veil between physical and psychic realities.
  2. Standard Alert Radius: 50 meters. Any personnel entering this radius without metaphysical shielding are subject to profound existential recalibration.
  3. The Hunt: Nodens is known to hunt the Nightgaunts and entities of the Outer Void. If he is manifest, it is usually because a greater threat has breached the local sector.

In the context of the SCP/Anomaly Foundation cross-collaboration files, Nodens remains unclassified by traditional site-wide containment. His nature is essentially “uncontainable” by physical means; therefore, containment is purely observational and diplomatic.

  • Containment Protocol (Proposed): Focus on the monitoring of ley-lines and localized gravitational fluctuations. If Nodens appears, non-intervention is the primary directive. He is not inherently hostile to humanity, but his methods of “protection” are often indistinguishable from catastrophic environmental phenomena.

Nodens occupies a rare “Neutral” space in the mythos. He is one of the few entities that does not seek to destroy, corrupt, or ignore humanity. However, researchers are warned: A deity that hunts monsters is still a deity. Approach with caution and maintain all protective wards while performing deep-space resonance scans.

Archivist Note: The connection between Nodens and the Roman/Celtic deity of the same name remains a point of intense debate within the Occult Research Division. Is it a syncretic survival or an ancient infiltration? Further study is required.
