The Tibicenas are mythological entities endemic to the rugged, volcanic geography of the Canary Islands. Within the framework of Guanche cosmology, they are viewed as the demonic terrestrial manifestations of the deity Guayota, who is said to reside within the bowels of the Teide volcano.

  • Appearance: Witnesses describe them as massive, lupine entities. Their physiology is characterized by thick, matted black fur that appears to absorb ambient light. Their most distinct feature is a pair of glowing, crimson ocular orbs that betray their presence in the deep night.
  • Nature: These entities act as the shadow-guardians of the volcanic peaks and the deep, lightless ravines (barrancos). They are territorial by nature, frequently manifesting during the transition between dusk and dawn to hunt livestock or wayward travelers.

“To hear the howling of a Tibicena is to know that the mountain itself has grown hungry. They do not merely hunt; they patrol the threshold between our world and the fire-filled void beneath the island.” — Recovered fragment, Archivist Journal 04-B

Per the archival system requirements, the following logic gates apply when an entity is verified as active:

  1. Reality Anchoring: All interactions must strictly adhere to the established metaphysical laws of the Guanche mythological framework. Do not attempt to apply modern occult paradigms to these entities; the results are consistently unpredictable.
  2. Containment Perimeter: A minimum 50-meter exclusion zone must be established upon detection. Personnel are advised that standard light-based deterrents are largely ineffective against these spectral predators.

Research Note: As of the latest update, there is no formal SCP Foundation containment protocol for the Tibicenas in a contemporary urban setting. However, field researchers suggest that the entities may be linked to localized tectonic anomalies.

  • Theoretical Hypothesis: Should a Tibicena manifest in a modern environment, it is likely that the entity would be drawn to geothermal power plants or subterranean tunnel systems, mistaking them for the volcanic vents of their ancestral origin.

Archivist’s Call to Action: Research personnel are encouraged to document any sightings of anomalous lupine entities near volcanic activity. All logs must be submitted to the Tier-2 secure server.
