The Yuki-onna (雪女, “Snow Woman”) is a legendary entity within the Japanese mythological framework. Observed primarily during extreme meteorological disturbances—specifically blizzards and mountain snowstorms—the entity manifests as an incredibly tall, hauntingly beautiful woman.

  • Physical Characteristics:
    • Complexion: Skin described as translucent, shimmering with the pallor of freshly fallen snow.
    • Features: Piercing, predatory eyes and obsidian-black hair that contrasts sharply against her glacial aesthetic.
    • Locomotion: The entity defies terrestrial physics; she leaves no footprints in the snow, often appearing to glide or hover inches above the surface.

“She does not walk through the snow; she is the snow. To look upon her is to court a winter that never ends.” — Fragment recovered from the Edo-period archives.

When the entity enters an active state, it is bound by the fundamental laws of Japanese mythological physics and occult resonance:

  1. Environmental Manipulation: The Yuki-onna initiates localized cryogenic events. Ambient temperatures within a 50-meter radius drop significantly below freezing, regardless of seasonal variations.
  2. Predatory Patterns: She is known to exhale a sub-zero vapor that instantly flash-freezes victims.
  3. The Mercy Clause: Historical accounts indicate a strange behavioral deviation where the entity spares handsome youths, usually due to their personal virtue or a sudden whim of the entity, though these cases remain statistically insignificant.

Section titled “现代异常收容改编 (Modern Anomaly Adaptation)”

In the context of modern anomalous containment, the Yuki-onna remains a fluid, non-corporeal threat. While physical barriers prove ineffective, the following guidelines are proposed for the Archival Division:

  • Thermal Monitoring: Any rapid, unexplained temperature drop in high-altitude research stations should be treated as a potential manifestation event.
  • Psychological Integrity: Personnel are advised against direct eye contact during a blizzard event; the entity’s influence is primarily sensory-based, preying on the victim’s exhaustion and the hypothermic degradation of the mind.

Note from Senior Researcher: “We have yet to secure a living sample. The Yuki-onna exists on the periphery of our reality, appearing only when the barrier between the mundane world and the frost-realm thins. If you encounter a woman in the mountains who does not leave a trail in the snow—do not follow. Simply turn back.”

Status: Research Ongoing. Requesting additional field reports from Hokkaido and Tohoku regional stations.
